Should i buy a 2003 honda odyssey

I am now looking for a new car. Complete failure. Stopped on side of road". The motor and transmission mounts also failed and had to be replaced". I had to have it rebuilt". Then it was replaced with a new rebuilt by Honda. This amount was added to the so called new transmission. They have a 4 year warranty on the transmission they put in.

Honda takes old transmissions and rebuilds them some were in the U. I asked is this a new transmission and they then told me it was a rebuilt one.

They do not put new". As a consequence I had been scrupulous in changing the transmission fluid more frequently than recommended always using genuine Honda fluid. Eventually at about miles my luck ran out and I got a total failure. Cross your fingers for another , miles! This would be the second one. Replaced first one under warranty.

The transmission basically sounded like it was in neutral, though was in drive. I contacted Honda Motor Corp. They said that since the original owner brought this vehicle in for the transmission recall inspection and no problem was noted, and I was not the original owner there would be no warranty coverage.

So I had the transmission completely rebuilt out of pocket. Since that time the transmission has been ok. I have not yet had it repaired due to cost.

Had been working fine then just stop shifting while driving". At first, it was only occasionally. Then, it started becoming more frequent. Two complete failures in K miles. No special issues encountered". Had a rebuilt transmission installed and have had no issues". That lasted another , then bearings blew up. A new rebuilt trans. Fourth transmission installed May Had a transmission shop rebuild rather than Honda dealer replace transmission. I year warranty".

Had to replace it. Had it replaced at a reputable transmission replacement facility". Honda refused to provide any relief". Had same problem with a but Honda extended warranty on to cover. Not so on the ". I took it to Carl Gregory Honda and was told that it could not simply be repaired, that I need to replace it. I purchased a Honda rebuilt transmission and had it installed".

Immediately drove about 5 miles to Honda dealer about 20 mph. Honda partially covered the cost". Had it rebuilt by Aamco. They said the failure was due to engine coolant contamination from a leak in the radiator allowing coolant into the transmission fluid line. Of course, this could all be BS".

Common issue known as Honda Blue due to heat on gear causing failure. Using accord's trans on a van is not ideal". By it failed altogether. NOT a reliable transmission".

I had it rebuilt and haven't had any problems so far". We had already done this once 2 years earlier too! Research showed Odyssey transmissions commonly only last about mi before failure. Dealer confirmed problems were real and would only get worse. Had to replace transmission". Power or manual windows, locks and latches, tailgate, hatch or trunk, doors or sliding doors, mirrors, seat controls, safety belts, sunroof, convertible top.

Of course, it's an old car. We just stopped using it. We don't know if it's an easy fix or not. Just not worth going to find out how expensive it will be. The same problem is now surfacing on the driver's side rear sliding door".

Appears to be related to gas hatch sensor". There is issues with door alignment once the cable unit is replaced. It did last K of the cars life so this may not be something you run into but may have issues near K. Lubricate the sliding cable with white lithium Greece will save the cable from breaking. Solved when dealer replaced the rollers that carry the weight along the rail". The cable is part of the motor and an entire new assembly must be purchased.

The ajar alarm beeps often even after they seem fully closed". Sensors will not allow the doors to close. Dealers has looked at the issue several times without resolution. Vehicle is too old to force the issue". The open door warning buzzes even if the door is secure so the master switch must be off to avoid constant noise".

The roller bearings on both sliding doors have worn out. It is expensive to replace, so we currently do not use the passenger side sliding door. If opened, it is very difficult to get close". It had to be disconnected in order to open by hand". Have had to change the ignition lock set and left passenger door actuator stopped working years ago. I have had many cars good and bad over my lifetime and never had things like door locks and hinges fail in a car's middle age.

My car was made in Japan". A key cannot even enter the keyhole. The passenger side door lock is problematic too. Sometimes the key will go in and other times not.

The passenger side sliding door's locking mechanism no longer works unl". The pod battery was not dead. I've had the door lock actuator replaced but still have same problem". The mechanism inside the door would no longer work, the window was completely off the track. The mechanism and window had to be replaced.

We have not repaired them as the cost to replace the motors was too expensive". Driver's window would gradually bind up over time until the mechanism broke.

Repaired now, but is binding up again. Had it fixed but the repair did not hold or was done inadequately". It appears that the clutch on the compressor is not always engaging. Happened 3 years ago". Normal wear and tear as far as I'm concerned". The climate control indicated that everything was working, but the compressor would not come on and the dash fan would only work on hi mode.

Also, recommend YouTube for great trouble-shooting advice. The mechanic says that the leaves are blocking the airflow to cool the air. They just clean it and it works fine after that". Need to turn off and on again at lower temperature to adjust properly". Replaced broken part. Probably not major but every expense is significant at our income". This causes reduced flow of radiator fluid through the in-dash heater core. I have had the coolant system flushed repeatedly, with some improvement of heater performance, but conclude that the minute passages through the corrugated heater core serve unintentionally as the principal filter for the entire engine coolant system.

An easy remedy would be to add a servicable and accessible filter through which engine coolant first flows before it passes through the firewall and into the dashboard. Mechanic performed system service, found refrigerant leak.

Love my Honda Odyssey! Bought my Honda Odyssey in brand new, have traveled all over the country in it to the tune of nearly , miles with no major mechanical issues at all! When someone asks how I like my minivan I always tell them I love it, would never drive anything else! In fact, I raved about my so much that my aunt chose to look at nothing but Odysseys when she bought a new car a few years ago. This time we went with a pre-owned which looked and drove like new. In fact, we traded in our pick-up on the and kept our as our second car It's old and battered, but well loved and serviceable.

Only issues I have had with it was the coil pack went bad once and I had an issue with the brake caliper once and 2 flat tires.

Bit of a gas hog. Great vehicle otherwise. Would recommend. Pretty standard, nothing to special. It's pretty neat, nothing flashy, pretty reliable. There has been other minor complications via external factors like the weather but overall it's a decent and effective car. Honda make an very Dependable van. I would recommend Honda for any family.

Still running great even with high miles. The power seat stop working. It is long, so driving it well takes practice. I like the room in it, there is enough space and seating for my family, plus the back seat folds down for when we have to travel or haul stuff. Good gas mileage also. In my opinion Honda is cheap on parts and very nice run. Not to many problems. Just regular turn ups. Changing oil filter. Tires and is a good car so far.

That it is a very good crash tested car. It is still running. The sliding passenger doors do not work. It is loud and not comfortable. Very loud. Problems with the odyssey. We've had many problems with our Honda odyssey. I wish we could have afforded a newer one. The sliding doors give me lots of trouble. Often they start to close but then open themselves again.

One window got stuck rolled down and wouldn't go up again. Also we couldn't anchor two child car seats in the back and we had to purchase new anchors and get them installed. For being an older van, it runs great and comfortably fits 7 people with lots of space. My Honda Odyssey runs good and comfortably fit my four kids, two nieces and myself. There is plenty of room for groceries in the back, even hooks on the back of the back seat to hang bags.

With lots of compartments for storage. The only problem i have had with it is once my son turned on and left on a light in the back and the battery died. Since then i have not been able to reset the stereo because it wants a code that i can not find anywhere in the van. Tired of the hunk of junk giving me problems. It's always an issue with this car. There's never not a problem. It just broke down on me today in the middle of the highway.

The tired decides to pop off out of nowhere with my son in the car. We are truly bless to be okay with nothing wrong with either of us. Just a little shaken up. It runs and drives like a dream even though it has almost , miles now. The seats are heated and very well padded. Nice for long trips with plenty of room to haul anything you need including people.

The best minivan made for families. Reliable and long lasting also comfortable and most of all convenient if you have children. Smooth ride and easy to maintain. It gets me from one place to another. The only thing I dislike about it are the doors. Sometimes it gets jammed when I'm going somewhere at a certain time and I can be late because I'm trying to close the door.

Amazing family van for a great price. Will last a while. This van is amazing if you have a family, it lasts long and the engine is great.

It gets me from point A to B. I would recommend this vehicle to any new family. It has plenty of room for food and cargo. Far as having any car this van has been the best to me for so many reasons. It drives like a car, has a good turning radius and gets good gas mileage. I like that it drives like a car and is comfortable.

It gets good gas mileage on the highway and the gas tank is large, so I don't have to stop as often for gas. It's very roomy inside, which is nice. Reliability of Honda Odyssey. We've owned our Odyssey for 8 years now and have had very little trouble with it. We change the oil regularly and have done routine things like put new tires on it but other than that it has been an extremely reliable vehicle.

We struggle some with rust on the body because of where we live. It has , miles and still very reliable. I enjoy the space it has for family. I hate the paint started chipping already. I love how dependable Honda vehicles are if you keep up with maintenance. It's a very safe vehicle and is great for lower income families to up keep. I love the fact that it goes strong with little need for maintenance.

It handles amazing in the winter for a van. Decent gas mileage for an older van as well. It's family friendly and safe. I like all of the space.

I like the sound system. And I love that the seats fold down in the back.
