Should i play league or union

There are 15 players on each team in Rugby Union but only 13 in Rugby League, with four fewer players on the pitch there is more overall space in Rugby League which can produce more of a running game. A line out is used in Rugby Union when the ball goes out of play whereas a scrum is used in Rugby League. Having no line out in Rugby League has removed the need to have specialist '2nd-row' players who are usually very tall. As a result Rugby League players are generally more of a uniform size than their Rugby Union counterparts.

Rugby League allows 3 more substitutions than Rugby Union over the course of the game. So, in a game where the full number of substitutions are used, 46 players can compete in a Rugby League game but only 44 in a Rugby Union game.

Both codes of Rugby have similar rules on tackling, it's what happens after the tackle that is different between the codes. In Rugby League play is restarted after a tackle, but in Rugby Union play continues through either a Ruck the ball is on the ground or a Maul the ball is being carried. In Rugby League, a team can only be tackled six times before they must pass possession to the opposite team. In Rugby Union, there is no such rule, and the team in possession of the ball can hold onto it for as long as they are able.

In Rugby Union a try is worth 5-points, a conversion 2-points, a drop goal 3-points and a penalty goal 3-points. Rugby league has my vote for the reasons I have mentioned, but I am part of the minority. I can see why some people are fanatically devoted to rugby league. But to be this sort of person, you have to really enjoy experiencing the same thing. Over, over, and over again. One of the often-cited advantages of rugby league is its simplicity but, in reality, this is its biggest flaw.

A player runs forward, and gets tackled. They give the ball to someone else in a completely unexciting way. That player runs forward and they, too, get dumped to the floor. Before giving it to someone else in a completely unexciting way. Sometimes, a player will punt the ball really high into the air, in the hope that something different will happen. An uncontested scrum is essentially a miniature ceasefire; a chance for the players to rest before, you guessed it, giving the ball to someone else in a completely unexciting way.

But the core difference between tennis and both versions of rugby is that the core gameplay of tennis is, itself, thrilling. The core gameplay of both — powerful running, dextrous handling, accurate kicking, intelligent utilisation of space and dummying — is compelling. Naturally, that makes every passage of the game even more repetitive. Each year, it seems that increasing numbers of British people watch and discuss the Superbowl.

It is not a definitive guide to either game, just a helping hand for new players. BESIDES the number of players 13 for League and 15 for Union , the major differences between the two codes centers around the tackle, and what happens after it. The six tackle rule applies in League, while in Union, it doesn't. In Union, a team may keep possession for an unlimited number of tackles before they score, as long as they keep the ball and no infringement is committed.

As a result of the six tackle rule League also has the ten-meter rule. After each tackle the defending side, all bar the two 'markers', must retreat 10 meters to allow the attacking side room to advance.

Once the play-the-ball has occurred the defending side can close the gap and meet the attack. The result is a high impact game with greater speed in the collision. League also has the scrum, but with far less importance, and it is not often contested. Fewer players make up the scrum in League and set pieces start from play-the-ball scenarios. The scrum in League is much less prone to frustrating technical infringements and allows open play to resume immediately.

Union is often referred to as the more technical code but in reality the two sports technical intricacies are of similar levels, however in League the focus is always on getting the game flowing again so the number of scenarios where technical infringements can occur at set plays has been actively reduced.
